On Sunday, August 31, the Romania Pavilion welcomed the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Dorin Recean, who was in Japan for the celebration of Moldova’s National Day at the World Expo in Osaka. The event coincided with Romanian Language Day, celebrated in both Romania and the Republic of Moldova, and, starting this year, also in Ukraine.
Upon his arrival at the Romania Pavilion, the high-ranking guest was greeted with bread and salt, in accordance with shared traditions – a symbol of hospitality, abundance, and friendship. The Commissioner General of the Romania Pavilion, Ferdinand Nagy, extended warm congratulations to Prime Minister Dorin Recean on the occasion of Moldova’s National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka and reiterated Romania’s constant support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova, as well as for the valorization of the shared cultural heritage.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova and the Commissioner General of Romania reaffirmed the importance of the Romanian language as an expression of their common identity and as a bridge between generations and communities. The Romanian language remains the bond that keeps cultural heritage and shared values alive, and at Expo 2025 Osaka, both officials conveyed a message of unity to everyone who thinks and feels in Romanian, wherever they may be.
“Romania and the Republic of Moldova share a common history, culture, and language. At the same time, we look together towards the future, guided by democratic and European values, convinced that respect for our language and culture is the foundation of a path of prosperity, dialogue, and friendship,” stated the Commissioner General of the Romania Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.
He also highlighted the beauty and authenticity of the traditional IE blouses presented during the ceremony organized by the Pavilion of the R. of Moldova, noting that this garment, a symbol of our shared cultural identity, has been included in the UNESCO heritage list.
The meeting took place in a warm atmosphere, accompanied by the music of the traditional folk melody Ciocârlia, which added emotion and color to the moment. Prime Minister Dorin Recean also visited the area dedicated to arts and crafts, receiving a handcrafted bookmark from the young artisan Ungureanu from the Trucouture workshop.
The official expressed that he felt at home in our Pavilion, which is based on the concept “Romania, Land of Tomorrow” – highlighting the role of young people as a driving force for innovation and a sustainable society.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova also included Dumitru Socolan, General Commissioner at Expo 2025 Osaka and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Japan.
Since the opening of the Expo in April 2025, the Romania Pavilion has welcomed numerous high-ranking officials from the Republic of Moldova, further consolidating the ties built on our shared language, history, and traditions.
